Okay, so they're not actually called wiener dogs, weiner dogs are really Dachshunds (which is a German breed that is nowadays more frequently called Dackel in German (fun fact). Another interesting thing is that the name "Dachshund" has been Anglicized to "dash hound" (which is not even close to what Dachshund means in German- it literally means "Badger dog").
